Contact Frequently asked questions:
What is the difference between a Formal Valuation and a Market Opinion?
A Formal Valuation is a legally binding, audit-defensible document compliant with AVAA standards and court rules, heavily relied upon for insurance policies, court property settlements, and SMSF compliance.
A Market Opinion is a preliminary, data-driven assessment designed for collectors planning future asset exits or looking for a high-level overview of their portfolio's current trajectory.
How do you handle volatile market spikes or "hyper cycles" when assessing value?
Our methodology filters out market noise. We look past sudden, short-term price spikes driven by temporary social media trends or market manipulation. Instead, our valuers calculate the underlying value by analysing long-term historical transaction volume, depth of market liquidity, and stable baseline trends over an extended tracking window.
Why can't I just use recent eBay sold listings to value my collection?
While raw secondary market transaction data is a useful starting point, it is not definitive. Raw listings often conceal anomalies, including unpaid bids, shill bidding, varying shipping/tax inclusions, and subtle differences in item condition. Our certified process adjusts for these variables, ensuring every comparable sale used truly matches the specific asset being assessed.
How does card condition factor into your pricing models?
Condition is evaluated as a complex spectrum, not just a static number on a plastic case. Even among professionally graded cards, we analyse the specific balance of surface quality, corners, edges, and centering. A micro-fracture or a slight shift in centering can alter buyer depth and overall market value, which our data models capture and reflect.
What international standards do your valuation frameworks align with?
All of our valuation frameworks are built in accordance with the strict regulations of the Auctioneers & Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA). They are designed to meet the legal criteria required by Australian courts, major insurance syndicates, and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for alternative asset classes.
How do I get a quote for my collection?
Simply navigate to our Request a Quote page, select the form that matches your needs (Formal Valuation, Market Opinion, or Court/Expert Inquiry), and provide your collection details. Our team will review your submission and issue a fixed-fee quote within 24–48 business hours.
Do I need to ship my collection to you for an appraisal?
Not necessarily. Depending on the size, value, and purpose of the valuation, we can perform assessments via high-resolution digital submissions, secure drop-off points, or on-site physical audits at your location or private vault facility.
What is the turnaround time for a formal valuation report?
Our standard turnaround time is 7 to 14 business days from the moment we receive full access to the collection data or complete the physical audit. If you have an urgent court deadline or insurance renewal, please specify this in your inquiry form so we can discuss expedited options.
Are your valuation reports legally defensible for court or tax matters?
Yes. All formal reports are authored by Jonathan Marin, an AVAA Certified Valuer (CVAu). Our documentation is built to satisfy the strict evidentiary standards required by Australian courts, family law rules, insurance underwriters, and the ATO (including SMSF compliance).
Do you offer an urgent or priority service if I am facing a strict deadline?
Yes. If you are working against a tight deadline such as an upcoming family court date, a fast-approaching SMSF tax submission, or an expiring insurance policy please let us know during your initial inquiry. We offer prioritized turnaround options for time-sensitive matters, subject to our current project capacity and a priority management fee.
How many Valuations do I need?
The number of individual reports or itemized line items required depends on the scope, diversity, and specific context of your collection. Single high-value assets, distinct sub-collections, or entire portfolios being prepared for tax, insurance, or estate allocation may require different reporting structures. We consult with you initially to determine the most cost-effective and compliant breakdown for your needs.
What happens if I want to sell my collection after valuation?
Our reports are structured with individual asset tracking, keeping your collection fully modular. Because each item receives its own distinct assessment and baseline value, you can sell, trade, or liquidate individual pieces over time without invalidating the rest of the report. If you decide to sell items later, the remaining documentation remains completely intact and valid for your records, insurance schedules, or legal purposes.
